Employee Impression Management Strategies:-

Organization should observe impression strategies of employees to handle and promote them properly. Organization should observe features, thinking and perceptions of employees. So, organization can predict about their impression strategies. Identifying impression strategies would help to achieve organizational prosperity. Here are two types of impression management strategies.

(i)Demotion Preventive strategies:-

If a person is trying to avoid problems or adverse situation or responsibility, he is following demotion preventive strategies. Features of demotion preventive strategies are such as:-

(a).Apology:-

Employee apologies to his superiors and owners and he request them for reducing problems or adverse situation or adverse responsibility which is influencing him.

(b).Separation:-

Employee tries to separate himself from problems, adverse situation or adverse responsibility which is influencing him silently. He maintains distance with group, coworkers and superiors who have been creating adverse situation to him.

 

(c).Justification:-

Employee tries to justify his behavior or action accordance with situation. He begs excuses with self for any adverse situation created due to his actions. He tries to blame external causes for any mistakes and adverse impacts.

2. Promotion enhancing strategies:-

If a person is trying to take responsibility, face challenges, solve problems and fight with adverse situation for positive results, he is following promotion enhancing strategies. He tries to show himself better.

(a).Privilege:-

Employee demands special rights, privilege and power for his contributions, performance and any positive results he brought in organization. He thinks that no credit is being given to his efforts or his achievements. Management should address the feeling of employee and contribution he gave for betterment of organization.

(b).Barriers Disclosure:-

Employee may have to face various personal and organizational obstacles or barriers in order to carry organizational tasks. Personal obstacles may be family problems, health problems and time lacking. Organizational problems may be unsupportive management, lack of time, resources, proper plan, proper monitoring etc. Employee tries to show barriers he has been facing to get positive results for creating better impression. He demands higher credit for this.

(c).Elaboration:-

Employee may think that he is getting less credit in comparison of his contribution. So, organization should try to increase or elaborate size of credit. This can be done by announcement of credit or rewarding through financial and non-financial rewards.

(d).Accompaniment:-

Employee tries to show that his accompaniment is with right people at right time. He tries to show this accompaniment will bring positive attitudes, results, behavior, skills and better performance in organization. It is done to increase impression. He tries to show his accompaniment with superior people.
